Who are you?
I’m Ryan, a former Army helicopter pilot with over a decade of aviation experience. Now a skilled drone pilot, I specialize in using drones for search and rescue operations, including locating lost dogs and larger animals like livestock. My expertise in aviation and technology helps bring missing animals home safely. I run LPSAR of WNY.
What do you do?
In short, we use drones to search for missing pets. Not every pet is a good candidate for a drone search, so we focus on key factors like recency and size. If too much time has passed, the pet could have traveled far—dogs have been found over 10 miles from their original location. We want to ensure we’re the right fit for your situation and won’t waste your time or money if we’re not.
Typically, we don’t search for cats or smaller animals due to the difficulty of locating them in wildlife. We also avoid cases without a sighting in over 24 hours. The ideal candidate is a dog that has been missing for less than four hours and will respond to its owner when called—essentially just lost. If the dog doesn’t respond to calls, we can help locate it, but you’ll need a way to capture it, such as a special treat or a trap.
